Season 2018/19 starts up

22/07/2018 14:21

The South Staffs TFC continues to gather momentum, and we have at least 10 players lined up for the new league season; Mike Bradbury (Willenhall), Sean Bradbury (Rugeley), Christopher Bradbury (Rugeley), Mike Murphy (Brownhills), Steve Davis (Hednesford), Andy Henly (Notts), Keith Holden (Notts), Tony Machin (Burton), Thomas Machin (Burton), Maca Niles (Walsall) and Guy Smith (Clun). There are also a few more casual and beginner players, for whom we give big handicaps, such as receiving no block flicks, or allowing them to use the big Toccer goalies.

Meetings will be held every 3rd Sunday throughout August to the following May at players homes. A range of pitches are in use, including cotton, Astro, Pegasus and real baize. Advanced Rules (WASPA downloads) are used since we finally gave up with the sillyness of FISTF after yet more child-friendly rules were introduced, such as no foul throws-in, shoot from anywhere, only one flick at free kicks, and if your shadow falls on a figure, you are deemd to have had your flick. Utter alienating nonsense. 5th August we are at Andy Henly's in Westwood village near Alfreton (the furthest trip), and Guy Smith's on the 12th. We then have meetings in Rugeley, Brownhills, Willenhall and Hednesford. For day by day information, follow us on Facebook/South Staffs Subbuteo Club. We have already seen four of five old players from the 1970 and 80s return to us, so if that's YOU, then come and join us, it's like riding a bike, we'll have you back to your old form within weeks.
